The Last Day of Camp

Hello Parents, Family, Friends, and Campers,

The last day of camp was one of the best days of the session. The campers participated in many different cabin challenge activities. These activities included; CIT safari, cabin skits, water relays, water balloon launch, bachii ball, and many more. The campers had a great time and end the end it was Eric's Cabin who won the most points in the cabin challenged! Good Job boys! Toward the end of the day the campers attended the award ceremony. Where each cabin handed out their individual camper awards, which are always funny to listen to.

When the sun started to set, the campers and staff headed down to the campfire for our last campfire service of the session and the year. At the campfire, our director Tipper announced the Camper of the Award recipients. Congratulations to Mckenzie and Michael T, who received the camper of the year for 2008!!! The campers said their last goodbyes and hugged the many friends who they will miss. It was sad to see everyone leave, and most of the campers have already started to count the days to next summer's session.

We hope that this message has helped you stay connected with your camper while he or she was at Camp Hickory Hill. We have all more than enjoyed having the campers at camp and we are truly blessed to of had the chance to get to know them and help them grow into wonderful individuals.

Thank you and See you next year,
Amber- Camp Hickory Hill Staff

TGI Friday

Hello Parents, Family and Friends,

Friday is finally here! And you know what that means…. the Dance is today! All of the campers have been preparing for the dance and have been waiting for its arrival. This morning the campers have been enjoying the sunshine and doing several different activities. After their daily lesson, some of the campers went fishing at the pond where almost every one of them got their fishing pole tangled some way or another. But after fixing those problems, the campers were able to catch some fish and get some good practice in. In the afternoon some campers went down to the zip line, where the Mike and Nick helped the campers conquer the high ropes course. Way to Go to the campers who did!

Today the Balance and Stretch award went to Michael P, who has been doing a great job at filling out his daily planner, asking for help, participating in activities, being a good role model, and helping other campers. Way to Go Michael!

After dinner, it was time for the 80’s style dance. The campers were dressed to impress in their very stylish clothes that is stylish in the 80’s. With the dining hall decked out with balloons and streamers, we listen to a variety of songs from the eights and got our boogie on. The campers spent the rest of the night dancing and having fun. By the time the dance was over the campers were very tired and ready for bed.

Goodnight from Camp Hickory Hill,

Crazy Thursday

Hello Parents, Family, and Friends of Camp Hickory Hill,

Once again, the day started out dark and rainy. But, but by second activity the rain cleared and the campers were able to go ahead with their scheduled activities. For the first half of the day the campers either played soccer or did archery out on the lower playing field. After the lunch the campers participated in the C.I.T. carnival, in which the campers were given tokens to play games and buy prizes. There was an assortment of activities including; snow cones, face painting, human ring toss, tug of war, and many more.

After dinner the campers had a very special activity with Larry G. Brown who came to tell stories and play music. All of the campers enjoyed listening to his very interesting and entertaining stories, and were even begging him for more after he was done. Before bed the rain canceled out our camp fire, and the campers finished watching the original Parent Trap movie.
The Balance and Stretch Star Award for today was handed over to MaKenzie! Congratulations MaKenzie, for doing a excellent job filling out the daily planner and for stretching to set new goals for yourself.

Another day at Camp Hickory Hill is done and has almost passed. The campers are asleep in their cabins with the stars shining brightly above them. Tomorrow is the dance, so check back to see pictures of your little camper grooving to some 80’s music.

From the Hills of Hickory, Thank You and Goodnight,

Wacky Wednesday

Greetings from the Hills of Hickory,

Hot, Hot, Hot! It was hot and humid at Camp Hickory Hill today, but that didn’t stop us from having a blast. This morning the camper’s participated in the good old game of kick Ball. It was a good game, even though it started to rain, we kept playing! In addition, this morning we had a special visit from the Boone County Volunteer Fire Department, who brought out their fire truck and gear. The campers got a demonstration of their fire fighting suits and got to try out the front seat of the fire truck!

After a nutritious and educational lunch, the campers went swimming and did the “high flying” zip line with their cabin mates. They also got to listen to a speech from a special camp hickory hill camper alumni, who is now a professional motorcycle drag racer for Harley Davidson. They campers got to see his racing motorcycle and listen to its engine roar.

After all that fun, you would think that they day would be over. But you would be wrong! Because this afternoon our evening activity was an all camp shaving cream fight! Yes that’s right, each camper got a can of shaving cream and all madness broke out on the lower playing field. Our hair still smells like shaving cream but it was a great time!

The Balance and Stretch Star Award for today was given to Michael! He has been doing a good job at filling out his daily planner and being a good role model in all of the areas of Balance and Stretch. Congratulations to Michael!

Goodnight from the Hills of Camp Hickory,

Rainy Tuesday

Greetings to all,
Today at Camp Hickory Hill was wet and humid! After breakfast the campers participated in an educational speech about counting carbs, lead by one of our wonderful nutritionist. In addition, Dorian received the Balance and Stretch Star Award for showing outstanding effort to fill out his daily planner and achieve the goals of the program. Congratulations Dorian!

This morning the rain came down pretty hard and canceled our morning activities. Instead of the planned activities, the campers enjoyed playing games and watching a movie in the dining hall. After lunch the rain cleared and the sun came out! While the sun was out the campers got to go swimming and rappelling down the rock cliff. Unfortunately the rain started again in late afternoon, and canceled our kickball game and camp fire. Although the rain canceled most of our activities the camper’s spirits were high and seemed to still have fun.

Camp Hickory Hill staff and campers would like to send their best and hope you are doing well. We hope that you are enjoying the pictures and blogs that we are posting.

Thank You,
Amber - Camp Hickory Hill Staff

Manic Monday

Hello Parents, Family, and Friends,

It was a warm day at Camp Hickory Hill, but that didn’t stop the campers from having fun and being active! Today’s camp schedule was filled with many educational and fun activities. This morning we had a special arts and crafts activity with Boone Electrical Co-op who visited and helped the campers make lamps out of spare parts. Throughout the day the campers split into their cabin groups and participated in archery, swimming, flying squirrel, and yoga.

And… I would have to say that the highlight of the day would have to be the all camp mud pit! The campers, CIT’s, and staff participated in one on one gladiator style mud pit fights. The queen of the mud pit, hands down, was McKenzie who got up on the log and fell into the mud pit more than any other camper. You go girl! The campers were very dirty by the end, but don’t worry, we made them take showers and they are now at least partially clean!

Once again night as fallen on Camp Hickory Hill and the stars are shining brightly in the sky. The campers have taken their meds, said their goodnights, and are now fast asleep in their cozy cabins. The sun will come up soon and another fun filled day at Camp Hickory Hill will begin.

Thank you and Goodnight,
